Swords no longer inflict more damage than bows.? Added blocking. Java Edition; 1.0.0 Beta 1.9 Prerelease 3: Sword damage has now been reduced to make way for enchanting. A diamond sword's damage has now been reduced from 10 to 7, iron has now been reduced to 6 and stone has now been reduced to 5. Iron swords are now found in the new stronghold.

Today I am going to show you how to get custom damage on any item in minecraft to make you OP!
To get yourself a really OP diamond sword that kills any normal mob in one shot (and does 999999 damage!) with one command!:
/give @p minecraft:diamond_sword 1 0 {AttributeModifiers:[{Operation:0,UUIDLeast:1,UUIDMost:1,Amount:999999,AttributeName:generic.attackDamage,Name:Barrier}],display:{Name:”Insta-Kill”}}
You can edit this command to make it cooler. If you change the Amount:999999 number to a different number you will change the attack damage of the item to that number.
You can change the word in-between the speech marks in {Name:”Insta-Kill”}} to rename the item to whatever you like
You can change the item by going to the section that says minecraft:diamond_sword and change the name after the colon to any item. If the item has spaces in it’s name, then you will have to put an underscore where the space would usually be. Example: minecraft:iron_sword
